Wuhan University establishes School of Robotics

He hopes that the college will uphold the concept of open cooperation and collaborative development, inject strong impetus into serving the development of the country and society, stand at the forefront of the times, constantly explore and innovate, and strive to create a new highland for technological innovation and talent cultivation in the field of robotics.

Academician Zhang Pingwen, President of Wuhan University, pointed out that the establishment of the School of Robotics aims to promote the development of education, science and technology, and talent as a whole, and strengthen the support and promotion role of disciplinary organizational structure in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, and technological innovation. The college will provide high-quality technology and talent support for the field of robotics, better serving the school's strategic goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics in 5-10 years.

According to Hubei Daily, the School of Robotics at Wuhan University will hire 10 industry professors from leading companies in robotics and intelligent manufacturing, such as Xiaomi, Yushu, Leju, and Youbisxuan, to cultivate innovative top talents. The newly established Robotics College will enroll 90 undergraduate students by 2025, leveraging the interdisciplinary advantages of Wuhan University and integrating the strengths of disciplines such as control, mechanics, surveying and remote sensing, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence to provide support for the exploration and cultivation of emerging interdisciplinary fields in the field of robotics.

In March 2024, Wuhan University and Xiaomi announced the establishment of a robotics department and the establishment of a master's degree program in "Robotics Technology". They launched a graduate training program with robotics as the main direction and feature, aiming to cultivate high-level talents in the field of robotics with the ability to conduct theoretical research, explore technology, and innovate applications in the new era.
