Kuala Lumpur, September 24th (Xinhua) - The 10 ASEAN countries signed the ASEAN Competition Framework Agreement at the 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on the 23rd. The agreement aims to establish a framework that ensures fair, transparent, and accountable markets in the ASEAN region.
It is reported that the negotiation of this agreement began at the 54th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting held in Cambodia in September 2022 and took three years to complete. The signing of the agreement will promote cross-border cooperation and coordination among ASEAN member states on policies and laws to ensure fair market competition, to ensure that market competition benefits consumers and small and medium-sized enterprises, and to ensure sustainable development by encouraging innovation and improving efficiency, laying a resilient and solid foundation for the regional economy.
The Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, who holds the rotating presidency of ASEAN, stated that the current global economic situation is complex and uncertain. Through this agreement, ASEAN demonstrates its commitment to high-level governance, business integrity and transparency to the international community. He also believes that this agreement lays a solid foundation for enhancing the capacity of competition management agencies in ASEAN countries, promoting cooperation among each other, and ensuring that all ASEAN member countries move forward together.
