French energy group Engie has signed a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Gulf Development PCL, a major Thai power producer, according to the company’s announcement. Under the contract, Engie will deliver up to 0.8 million metric tons of LNG per year to fuel Gulf’s power plants in Thailand, with shipments scheduled to begin in 2028.
The agreement supports Thailand’s long-term energy strategy as the country seeks to diversify its natural gas sources and ensure reliable supplies for power generation. LNG plays a critical role in Thailand’s electricity system, making up a significant portion of the country’s fuel mix.
Engie stated that the contract reflects its continued focus on developing LNG partnerships in Asia and contributing to regional energy security. The company added that long-term LNG arrangements can help stabilize fuel costs and enhance supply planning for major power producers.
Thailand has been strengthening its LNG procurement structure in recent years as domestic gas production declines and electricity demand continues to grow. Gulf Development, one of the country’s leading private power generators, operates several gas-fired power plants and remains a key participant in Thailand’s energy market.
The deal marks one of the latest international LNG supply commitments into Thailand ahead of the country’s next phase of energy infrastructure expansion.
