Infineon Technologies AG has officially begun construction of a new semiconductor backend production facility in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok, as part of its strategy to optimize and diversify its manufacturing footprint in Asia. The first building of the site is planned to be ready for operations at the beginning of 2026.
The development was inaugurated following an official meeting with Thailand’s Prime Minister, and it received support from the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI). The new backend fab will play a key role in meeting increasing demand for power modules used in industrial applications and renewable energy systems, as decarbonization and digitalization continue to drive structural growth in the semiconductor industry.
Infineon’s Chief Operations Officer, Dr. Rutger Wijburg, stated that the site is being designed for high efficiency, resilience and quality, enabling the company to reliably deliver products that meet customer needs while optimizing production costs. The facility’s construction is included in the company’s 2025 capital expenditure plan, with further output ramp-up to be managed according to market demand.
The expansion in Thailand underscores Infineon’s confidence in the country’s strategic position within the global semiconductor supply chain. By enhancing its production capabilities in Southeast Asia, the company aims to contribute to a more resilient ecosystem while supporting local workforce development and regional manufacturing growth.
