Thailand has launched a comprehensive draft strategy to expand its semiconductor and advanced electronics industry, aiming to transform the country into a regional technology and manufacturing hub by 2050. The roadmap, prepared by the Board of Investment (BOI) and reviewed by the National Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy Committee, outlines phased development targets and strategies across the entire value chain—from chip design and assembly to wafer fabrication and high-value production.
The initiative aims to attract over 2.5 trillion baht in investments, develop more than 230,000 skilled professionals, and establish Thailand’s “Made-in-Thailand Chips 2050” vision. It prioritizes product groups with strong domestic demand, including power chips, sensors, photonics, analog and discrete semiconductors, aligned with Thailand’s strengths in automotive, electronics, telecommunications and data centre industries.
Officials say the strategy is designed to move the country beyond contract assembly into upstream fabrication and IC design, leveraging existing supply chains and aligning policy support across the government to attract global and domestic investment.
