The 2nd "the Belt and Road" Science and Technology Innovation Ministerial Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan, and ASEAN countries participated

ASEAN Headlines On June 11, 2025, the second "the Belt and Road" Science and Technology Innovation Ministers' Meeting was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. A total of 41 science and technology innovation ministers and ministerial representatives from the "the Belt and Road" countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, attended the meeting and made speeches.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Yin Hejun, Minister of Science and Technology of China, presided over the second "the Belt and Road" Science and Technology Innovation Ministers' Meeting. Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China, introduced the relevant contents of the "Chengdu Declaration on Jointly Building a" the Belt and Road "Science and Technology Innovation Community" on behalf of China.

 Yin Hejun said that China has always adhered to scientific and technological openness and cooperation for the benefit of mankind, put forward the Initiative for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation and the Initiative for International Cooperation in Open Science to the international community, played the role of co building platforms such as the "the Belt and Road", and worked with countries around the world to create an open, fair, just and non discriminatory international scientific and technological development environment to jointly address global challenges such as climate change, food security and energy security. The Chinese government has signed bilateral intergovernmental scientific and technological cooperation agreements with more than 80 countries that have jointly built the "the Belt and Road", launched the construction of more than 70 "the Belt and Road" joint laboratories and 10 international technology transfer centers, actively carried out scientific and technological people to people exchanges and cooperation in science and technology parks, organized and implemented special cooperation plans such as sustainable development technologies, space information technology, scientific and technological poverty reduction, innovation and entrepreneurship, and injected continuous innovation impetus into the high-quality development of the "the Belt and Road".

Yin Hejun stressed that China will always adhere to the concept of open, inclusive, mutually beneficial and shared international scientific and technological cooperation, work with all parties to continuously deepen the cooperation in scientific and technological innovation of the "the Belt and Road", jointly carry out joint research in cutting-edge areas, organize a network of innovation partnerships, promote technology transfer and innovation and entrepreneurship, launch special cooperation plans in artificial intelligence, traditional Chinese medicine and other fields, jointly implement international major scientific plans, promote the improvement of the global scientific and technological governance system, and work together to build an innovation driven, open, inclusive, common prosperity, fair, equitable, inclusive and sustainable "the Belt and Road" scientific and technological innovation community, so that scientific and technological innovation can better empower and jointly build national economic and social development.

The ministers of science and technology innovation of the participating countries conducted in-depth exchanges on the theme of tapping new potential and new paradigm of scientific and technological cooperation, building a scientific and technological innovation community along the "the Belt and Road", and extensively exchanged views on topics such as deepening exchanges and cooperation in key areas such as artificial intelligence, spatial information, green low-carbon, life health, and improving the global science and technology governance system. Everyone agrees that international scientific and technological cooperation is the key path to achieving global technological progress and lasting prosperity of civilization. The participants will jointly embark on a new journey of scientific and technological innovation cooperation along the "the Belt and Road" with a more open attitude and more pragmatic initiatives and actions.
