Kuala Lumpur, November 4th (Xinhua) - The 12th International Symposium of the World Overseas Chinese Studies Association opened on November 4th at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The theme of this seminar is "Chinese in the Changing World: Global Networks and Local Realities". Over 600 researchers from more than 20 countries and regions, including China, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States, will conduct 90 parallel forums on multiple topics during the 3-day seminar. During the conference, a cultural dinner will also be held, and over 20 exhibition booths will be set up to showcase the achievements and creativity of various research centers, publishing houses, and local enterprises.
In his opening speech, Huang Zijian, Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Social Sciences at the University of Malaya, stated that this seminar aims to explore the changes in the global Chinese network and the current situation of local societies from different research perspectives in various fields and regions, and to reflect on the value and significance of the common historical, cultural, and other attributes of overseas Chinese communities in the contemporary context.
This seminar is jointly organized by the International Chinese Studies Association and the Faculty of Literature and Social Sciences of the University of Malaya. Li Minghuan, President of the International Chinese Studies Association, and Osman, President of the University of Malaya, attended the opening ceremony.
