The Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) was successfully held in Chanthaburi Province, Thailand, from October 21 to 22, 2025, concluding in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere. The Cambodian delegation was led by Minister of State for Border Affairs, Long Chhay, while the Thai delegation was headed by Advisor for Border Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prasas Prasasvinitchai.
According to the joint press release of the meeting, both sides agreed to commission the Cambodia Thailand Joint Technical Subcommittee (JTSC) to rebuild 15 border posts at the agreed location, based on the original French style posts, and to rebuild 3 submerged border posts. Both parties will also accelerate the revision of the 2003 technical procedures regarding the production of orthophoto maps, introducing new technologies such as LiDAR to advance boundary surveying and demarcation work.
Both parties agree to review and finalize the technical guidance for the joint demarcation and temporary layout of the priority boundary line for the field survey of the area between the 42nd and 47th outposts on the Cambodia Thailand border. After the demarcation and temporary layout work is completed and approved by their respective governments, both parties will study and establish appropriate mechanisms to adjust the relevant ownership and equity arrangements. Both sides emphasized that the temporary layout is only for the purpose of demarcation and does not affect the legal status of the Cambodia Thailand international boundary line.
In addition, both sides agreed to coordinate local military and civilian forces to ensure the safety and freedom of movement of the joint survey team, avoid any actions that may exacerbate regional tensions, and ensure the clearance of landmines in the area.
Both parties have agreed that the next Joint Border Committee meeting will be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia in the first week of January 2026
