The number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand is expected to decrease to 32 million by 2025

Bangkok, November 2 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Industry Association of Thailand announced on the 1st that the total number of foreign tourists in Thailand will drop to 32 million by 2025, which is lower than the government's established target. The association calls on the government to increase efforts to crack down on telecommunications fraud activities and suggests launching flight discounts and cross regional tourism activities to boost market confidence.

The Chairman of the Tourism Industry Association of Thailand, Thanapun Chiharathapon, stated that the top five source markets for Thailand by 2025 are expected to be China (4.6 million visitors), Malaysia (4.5 million visitors), India (2.2 million visitors), Russia (1.6 million visitors), and South Korea (1.5 million visitors).

Tanapong called on the Thai government to strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries, eradicate transnational criminal organizations that use Thailand as a base, and maintain the overall tourism reputation of Southeast Asia.

Tanapong revealed that in order to promote tourism recovery, the Tourism Industry Association of Thailand plans to hold a large-scale business negotiation event in January 2026, inviting domestic and foreign tourism operators to participate and launch cross regional tourism packages covering travel routes and hotel discounts. The event is expected to attract about 1500 industry insiders to participate, aiming to promote a more balanced distribution of tourism revenue nationwide and reduce the phenomenon of excessive concentration in popular scenic spots. The association will also discuss with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to launch a special ticket promotion plan to encourage domestic and foreign tourists to travel.

Tanapong stated that the association had originally expected a rebound in Thailand's tourism industry in the fourth quarter of this year, but market sentiment may temporarily ease due to the nationwide mourning for the passing of Queen Mother. However, he still has confidence in the Thai tourism market next year.
